Speaking with GameSpot, Sega associate brand manager, Ken Balough confirmed that Project Needle mouse will feature HD graphics. He also said the game’s concept was a response to “old-school Sonic fans” who “have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay.”

strange, that doesnt look like sonic at the end there.
The last time they said they were going to rekindle sonic’s 2D roots they were going to do it with the Advance series. While they did do the 2D elements right, they still messed it up when they made it so only an obsessive compulsive nutjobs could get the chaos emeralds and see the actual ending of the game. They made it harder to get into the special stages than to actually do the special stages once you got into them. Sonic Advance 1 being the only possible exception to this.
Lots of flashy teasers promising to “we’re going to get it right this time! we promise!” aren’t going to sway me in the least. I need actual gameplay videos and details about what’s required of you to fully complete the game before I say whether this is a good idea or not. For all I know, they could just be making sonic dig his grave even deeper in HD format. You can really see the worms wiggling around in the dirt at that definition.
I find it disappointing that I’m so skeptical of Sonic Teams capability to make good games anymore. If it was back in the 90’s I’d be chomping at the bit to play the game when it came out. Sadly, those days are over and I have to examine Sonic Team like one of those Obsessive Compulsive nutjobs to make sure I’m not going to be disappointed again.
